Happiness Through a Child’s Eyes

This weekend I remembered what it means to be happy and seeing it through my children’s eyes made me realize that it’s not something all that complicated and really not all that hard to achieve.  All you need is really great friends and you’ll be amazed at how happy you can be.  A touch of beautiful weather doesn’t hurt either 😉 While we were in Barcelona, our pace was relaxed.  We the majority of our time with friends.  My friends did everything to try to help make things easier for us – helping to shuttle the kids to and from playdates and sleepovers and helping to organize lunches, etc.  Without them, I couldn’t have done it – we had to be in too many places at once.  And for that, I thank each and every one of you.  And I also thank your wonderful children for just being who they are and being such great friends to Aidan and Liam. This is a special group of boys that we have and we love them all! This weekend, I got to see the happiness on my boys’ faces – true happiness like I haven’t seen in a long time.  To see their smiles light up a room.  I heard them laugh and it warmed my heart.  We felt the warm sun on our faces and enjoyed the Barcelona Blue (truly, I think it has it’s own special color) sky. We walked … a lot.  Ok, more than a lot and more than usual, but it felt so good to be outside and enjoying the fresh air.  They ran.  They played.  It was as though we never left. And the connections were still there despite the 6 months that had gone by.  This visit, our first since we left, was incredibly special to us all. I didn’t take many pictures – a lack of opportunity as they were all running around, but I was also catching up with people friends and was focused on the moment at hand.

And this gives me hope.  As I mentioned in my last post, I have remembered that it hasn’t always been like this.  And so my hope is that this amazing feeling that we experienced, this love, will happen here eventually too.  All we need is time…

In the meantime, we will look forward to our next visit (TBD) and hopefully we will have some visitors here soon as well!  Thank you for making our visit “epically awesome!” (Liam’s words) 🙂 Julie
