After years and years of saying I want to write a book, I’ve decided to take the leap. Last year, I heard of this “competition” called NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). After 7 years of blogging, I’m not sure why I’d never heard of it before, but once I did, I was intrigued. It’s a competition of sorts, but more than anything, it’s a motivator.
The goal is to write 50,000 words over the course of the month of November. 50,000. That’s a lot of words. But given that my average post is around 1500 and to do 50,000 you’d need to write about 1600-2000 per day, I think I’m up to the task. For me the challenge has always been (1) getting started, (2) what to write about and (3) will anyone read it?
I’ve decided to not worry about #3 for now. The goal is get a book written. Getting started has been so hard because I’ve been so focused on the audience and worrying about readership. So for now, I’m going to forget about that piece and just… write. And write and write and write!
So here we go – come November 1 you may hear a little less from me since I’ll be so focused on getting my thoughts on to paper in time for the November 30th deadline. But I’m excited for this new adventure and what it could lead to!
