Moving… AGAIN

After 7 years and 7 moves, I’m about done with moving.  This time is made more complicated by the fact that we aren’t just moving into a new house and unpacking, but instead are renovating the house that we bought and moving during the process.  So we are surrounded by boxes in both places right now, as well as construction, once again in this limbo space that I despise.

We move near the end of this week and our house is no where near ready.  And yet, we are still moving regardless.  While we’ve paid our rent through March (vomit!), we’ve already changed over utilities for end of the month, arranged movers, arranged for furniture deliveries and more.  And honestly, I just want to get there, even if it is a disaster.

We’re nearing the light at the end of the tunnel, though the tunnel has been full of lots of little surprises.  Things like 2 layers of wallpaper, plaster board and tiles instead of just one layer of wallpaper in our bathroom.  Challenges finding the water line to bring water up to our new bathroom.  Popcorn paint that turns out in some places to be more like popcorn wallpaper that has to be scraped off before the plaster can be put on.  The water line that was attached with duct tape. And even things like the realization that our kitchen windows have been sealed shut??????  WTF?  All have been small things that are manageable, nothing horrible like your walls are filled with mold and we need to take them all down and start over.  But each little surprise sets us back in an already tight schedule.

I will admit that I added a few of these things to the list.  Like the windows that now need to be unsealed.  They obviously weren’t on the original list but need to get fixed.  Or the laundry room that felt so chaotic with the way the shelves were set up that I need to redo. Lower priority projects than getting the rest of the rooms ready, but things that keep getting added to the list.

And as moving day approached in a matter of days, we now have 2 rooms semi complete. Two.  I’m getting anxious.  And yet, I’m also getting excited. In a few days we’ll be in our new house.  Our house.  After 7 years of being constantly on the move, we are settling down and making something our own.

More updates to come I’m sure!

  1. Look at you Miss DIY! 🙂 I’m also in the middle of rehabbing my shower because the tiles concaved in. Apparently the previous contractor put in non-moisture proof walling!! It’s nothing compared to what you’re doing though. I’m so impressed!

Also, I want to let you know I nominated you for the Liebster Award! I wasn’t sure if you had a FB so didn’t tag you in my latest update, but if you check out my latest post on my site you’ll see what I’m talking about.

    Good luck with everything, Julie!

    • Non-moisture proof walling in a bathroom???? Sometimes you just have to wonder what people are thinking! I’m hoping to get back to my blogging soon – I am starting to miss it and it’s the longest I’ve gone without writing something. We are starting to feel settled and that helps! I still have to read your post (it’s been up in my tabs for a week now waiting to read). Thanks again for the nomination – hope everything is great there Emily!!
