Aidan Turns 12 in the Netherlands

Christmas 2015

While we are now days past Christmas, I can’t not write about it.  What was supposed to be a mellow week before Christmas with no sports, activities, etc, was anything but that.  But that doesn’t mean we didn’t have a great time this past week – we were just busier than planned. What a Difference a Year Makes – Thanksgiving 2015

Last year we celebrated Thanksgiving just the 4 of us.  Josh was still recovering from his knee surgery and we really didn’t have any friends.  It was the first time we’d ever celebrated “alone”.  And it sucked.  I hated it. Swim for Your Life!

I’ve mentioned before that there’s a lot of water here in the Netherlands.  A lot.  In fact, about 50% of the country is below sea level.  There is water everywhere with canals running along side many streets.  From the air, one can see just how much water encompasses the every day life here in the Netherlands.  And so it’s no surprise that learning to swim is an important factor in life here.  However, it’s not learning to swim for fun, but rather, for survival.
