Seven years ago on January 5th, we arrived in Barcelona with no idea the adventure we were about to embark on. Two years felt like it was going to be forever! Who would have known that 2 years would end up 7 and still counting? One country would end up being two? And that we’d end up buying a house with plans to settle down in Europe for the foreseeable future? Continue reading
I’m almost exactly a month late with this one. While we were home in the US, we celebrated two years of living in the Netherlands. I felt much better “celebrating” this year compared to our first year which was an outright disaster. This past year felt more… normal. Continue reading
Six years ago this week we left the US for a 2 year adventure in Barcelona. Doesn’t make a lot of sense does it – 2 years is now 6? I look back at the whole 2 year thing now and laugh. If only I could have known what an adventure it was really going to be. Clearly what happened went way beyond our expectations and our plans. I’m not the same person as I was then. How could I be? So much has happened in 6 years. Continue reading
I use “celebrating” as a loose term here. It’s more of a congratulations on our survival and the fact that while we had one slightly maimed this year, no one died and for that we raise a toast. This past year was bad. Like record books kind of bad. In fact, I pretty much had to be dragged kicking and screaming back to the Netherlands. I just didn’t want to go back. Continue reading
Amongst other ex-pats I’ve often heard that to truly experience life in a new country, you really need at least 3 years. The first year is spent trying to adjust, finding your bearings, learning the culture and so much more. It’s overwhelming and overstimulating to say the least. The second year is when you start to get the hang of things – you know where to buy your groceries, you’ve built some relationships (of which at least half of those people will leave in that same year to new destinations) and you are pretty happy overall. But it’s year three Continue reading
Wow, seriously can it have already been three years? This year truly flew by. There were doubts amongst the masses as to whether I would be able to endure year one. And yet, here we are, done with three full years, two and a half left to go. We’ve been here longer than what we have left (again).
And speaking of being here longer, Liam is now the age Aidan was when we moved here, 5 1/2. This was the year that Liam had officially lived in Spain longer than he lived in the United States. A strange achievement in my mind, Continue reading
This post is about 2 weeks delayed but with the return to school and work, it’s been a bit crazy around here trying to catch up. We returned from Menorca on the 1st which also, coincidentally happened to be mine and Josh’s anniversary. Eleven years of wedded bliss!! I had already arranged for a babysitter for that evening so that we could go to dinner, but Josh, as always, had something up his sleeve. Continue reading
I don’t know how it’s possible that I can define so many places as Paradise, but once again, we’ve made it and this time is it the small island of Formentera, off the coast of Ibiza in the Balearic Islands. This is a destination that our friend Marco has been telling us about for some time and a place we’ve been meaning to and wanting to visit. So finally after all this time, Josh arranged for us to go as our Anniversary Trip #2.
