In looking for fun, scenic things to do in the Algarve, we came across the Alvor Boardwalk. We miss walking. A lot. We spend a lot of time in our car in the Netherlands and really miss walking like we did in Barcelona. So the word “boardwalk” piqued our interest, figuring it would be along the water with some cute shops and restaurants along the way. Continue reading
We chose to stay in the area of Praia da Luz during our Algarve holiday because of many of the towns and villages in the area, Praia da Luz was on the smaller side and felt slightly less touristy than many of the other areas we’d looked at. It’s on the western side of the Algarve so a good distance from Faro Airport and we figured many who are here on holiday may not want to drive the extra distance to get here. Continue reading
I’ve missed you so much. That and the sky that reminds me of the Barcelona blue that I had become so accustomed to. I think we are going to like it down here in the Algarve.

We travel…a lot. In the last 6 weeks, we’ve now had 4 trips. Even for us, that’s more than normal. It’s been rather exhausting. First world problems, I know. But don’t confuse travel to new (or old) destinations as a vacation. To me, vacation is about relaxing, having no time table and just decompressing. Travel is about going places, for us, often a quick in and out visit, which is anything but relaxing. It’s about exploring and often times we don’t have enough time to do that at a leisurely pace. If there is one thing that Josh has always been good it, it’s a great surprise. And with my 40th birthday this past June, it’s no surprise that he came up with something big but also caught me completely out of left field. Continue reading
It was strange arriving on Rab on Saturday. We took an auto ferry from Stinica. Pretty much the only thing that is in Stinica is the ferry so it was easy to find. We drove off the ferry and the instructions from the realtor said, go straight on the road. I didn’t have to worry about being confused as to which road because there was only one road leading off the ferry and onto the island.
When we came to Barcelona almost 3 years ago we brought along our furry children as well. After all, they were our first children and why shouldn’t they enjoy this experience too? Sadly, Sailor, who was not so healthy to begin with, only made it through the first summer before we had to put her down. So for the last 2 1/2 years it’s been the 4 of us and Jake. Continue reading
Wednesday was yet another beautiful day in Lakka and over the weekend we made a reservation to rent a boat for the day. It was a simple 16’ center console fishing type boat and our plan was to do some exploring and then end up on Antipaxos, an island just to the south of us. Continue reading
When we planned this vacation it was with the knowledge that it will primarily be a beach vacation with lazy days spent by the water and perhaps a little exploring here and there. And basically we spent each day on the beach (usually before 10AM) just relaxing. Continue reading
In an effort to keep cranky children at bay during sight seeing we’ve been using the beach as a lure to behave. It’s worked overall and yesterday was no exception. Regardless of the fact that Kelly, Michelle and I really wanted to see Antibes, the kids really wanted to hit the beach one last time before heading further inland to Arles in Provence.
